Near the end of the movie
I know this is such a simple parallel, yet it's just so effective! I mean yeah the meaning is pretty obvious; Orion leaped out to save D-16 after he was pushed by another racer. D-16 recklessly shot Orion and despite his deep guilt and anguish, he ultimately didn't return the favour. He is done saving Orion. Orion may look out for D-16, but D-16 no longer looks out for anyone but himself. I think that he stopped believing that anything good could ever come out of it.
Man I love this movie.
Honestly, thinking back on it, I think I actually thought about the race when I first saw the "I'm done saving you" scene. I guess I just forgot about that until now.
Extra detail: Note Orion's fingers twitching in pain. Just admiring the detail and great animation, is all.
