I abandoned the idea of using Zonelots.

The script and stylesheet is set up quite differently and I really didn't want to wrangle my entire website.

Then I remembered the post from 3legged in which they talked about adding tags to Zonelets. Since their script just a modified version of the default Zonelets script it went quite well. I also finally managed to switch the "next" and "previous" button placements. (In my opinion the previous post belongs on the left, not the right.)

Didn't think I would be able to make sense of Javascript but here we are.

Sadly there was (and technically is) one issue which I couldn't find a solution to. For some inexplicable reason the header, recent posts list and footer refuses to generate on specifically the homepage. The rest of the pages work as usual. I've reached out to 3legged on Tumblr to find a solution.

Anyways, I figured out that I can just recreate the header and footer categories and then I'll just have to accept the lack of a recent posts list. That is a bit disappointing, but I don't want to keep having my website on hold and I am definitely not going to manually add every single recent post.

I put posts on hold because I've been busy but also because I wanted to reduce the amount of posts I have to manually convert to the tagging system.

Finally, I've had to accept defeat in regards to the automatically generated list of posts on pages dedicated to a specific tag. "taggedPosts" just won't work despite seemingly working similarly to "TagList" on the archive page. So I'll have to manually add posts to the tag pages. Yes, that is quite annoying, but it's a lot less tedious than if none of the automatic lists worked and I'd have to add links to the archive page, the post itself AND the tag page. So I'm keeping it this way.

Please let me know if you see anything broken on here.
